Summers are here and holiday season is just around the corner. As people start planning where to go for the summer breaks, I am here to share destinations in India which are beautiful, with lots of fun activities, easy access, budget friendly and above all thanda thanda cool cool for a pleasant holiday. Listed below are the places which are best to visit from March to June, with their expected temperatures and things to do during these months.
1. Manali-
Expected temperatures from march to June – 10’C to 25’C.
Things to do- located in North this place is beautiful with scrumptious food and tons of activities for all age groups. Here u can indulge in paragliding, trekking, river rafting, xorbing, skiing, and many mountain sports in Solang valley. Visit Rohtang pass and temples is also popular. If have more days in hand you could do the whole belt of Manali, Kasol, Tosh, Parvati valley, Kheerganga, Malana and Vashisht.
2. Kashmir
Expected temperatures from march to June – 22’C to 29’C.
Things to do- one of the most beautiful places I’ve been to. Easily accessible and has tons to do. You can enjoy everything right from Gulmarg gondola rides, Srinagar Dal lake, house boats, shikara rides, visit to Sonmarg, Kargil, Pahalgam, floating gardens, gardens of char minar, visit cherry farms, floating markets and much more. You can also shop for carpets, walnuts, semi precious stones and souvenirs perfect place for family holiday or a romantic getaway.
3. Leh-
Expected temperatures from march to June – 20’C to 30’C.
Things to do- this place is addictive and how. Check out my Leh blog to plan your trip here. The roadtrip to Leh is a must do and most beautiful. Can be done from Kashmir to Leh or Manali to Leh. This place has tons to offer like beautiful monasteries, biking, the most beautiful pangong tso lake, tso morori lake, nubra valley, biking to khardungla pass, visit Hunder for sand dunes and ride on 2 humped camels, Zanskar river rafting is fun, pathar sahib gurudwara, war memorial museum and la mayuru (the broken moonland). Also enjoy lot of scrumptious food and desserts and binge on momos and thukpas. A Must do if you haven’t been here already.
4. Shimla-
Expected temperatures from march to June – 15’C to 30’C.
Things to do- again a place of scenic beauty and snow capped mountains. In summers you can enjoy shopping at mall and ridge road. Visit state museum, summer hill, Annandale for cricket, enjoy picnics, golf and polo. Visit Daranghati sanctuary which is famous for treks. Chadwick falls, camping at Mashobra, full day heritage walk, bird watching, ice skating and river rafting are also few fun activities to do here.
5. Mussoorie-
Expected temperatures from march to June – highest 37’C.
Things to do- it’s a beautiful hill station where you can indulge in sight seeing or just spend some romantic time. There are attractions like Kempty falls, benog wildlife sanctuary, cable cars, sky bridge- longest hanging adventure bridge, walk, hike, trek, camp, zipline, zip swings, rock climbing, rapelling, caving, mountain biking, atv rides, paragliding, rafting, boating, fishing, roller skating and wine making from fruits. Also enjoy lots of shopping at kulri bazaar and daur bazar. This place has lounges and bars to enjoy a few drinks in the night.
6. Nainital-
Expected temperatures from march to June – max 28’C.
Things to do- enjoy boating, go to Naina peak for amazing panoramic view, visit tiffin top for view of Himalayas. St John in wilderness church, GB Pant high altitude zoo, eco cave gardens are also few attractions. Enjoy view of snow capped Himalayas with major peaks like Nanda kot and Nanda devi.
7. Gangtok
Expected temperatures from march to June – 22’C to 28’C.
Things to do- cable ride over the city from Deorali to tashiling. Yak safari, trekking, mountain biking, river rafting and paragliding are few fun activities. Enjoy the beautiful sunset at Tashi view point which offers the view of Kanchenjunga. Visit monasteries and shop at Lal bazar.
8. Dharamsala-
Expected temperatures from march to June – 16’C to 31’C.
Things to do- this place definitely has scenic beauty and colourful cafes to enjoy but besides that it also offers paragliding, triund trek, camping, sightseeing to kangra valley, kangra fort, experience cultural heritage, visit to monasteries and temples, bhagsu waterfall, tea gardens, kareri dal lake, naddi village and so much more.
9. Kodaikanal-
Expected temperatures from march to June – 20’C to 34’C.
Things to do -enjoy camping, trekking, temple visits, trip to solar observatory, silent valley, lakes, falls and lot of points like pillar rocks, green valley view, dolphins nose. Known as princess of hill stations, the summer festival here has routine cultural programmes such as folk dance, folk music and bharatnatyam festival as well as fun activities like flower shows and ‘catch a fish’ events. So a perfect holiday for the whole family.
10. Darjeeling-
Expected temperatures from march to June – 11.2’C to 19.1’C.
Things to do – a perfect place for a romantic getaway or even a family holiday. You can visit tiger hills, tea plantation, teesta white water rafting, trek to sandakphu, enjoy the toy train ride for panoramic views of the place, eat thukpas and momos, shop at Bhutia martket and chowrasta, go for Darjeeling ropeway, monasteries or just spend cozy time in this beautiful place.
11. Ooty-
Expected temperatures from march to June – max 20’C.
Things to do – Sightseeing of temple, museum, church, palace, picknicing and paddle boating at ooty lake, botanical gardens, rose gardens, pine forest and lakes. Also every may they have a summer festival which has flower shows, boat races and much more. A perfect short trip.
12. Coorg-
Expected temperatures from march to June – 15’C to 35’C.
Things to do – This place is extremely beautiful with natural surroundings. Though a little warmer in summers its a year round destination. You can enjoy camping, river rafting, trekking here. You can also visit pushpagiri wildlife sanctuary. Places like rajas seat offer the best landscape view. You can also enjoy water falls, microlight flying, kayaking, waterfall rappeling, temples and spas.
13. Yercaud-
Expected temperatures from march to June – 28’C to 15’C.
Things to do- The resort town of Yercaud is a lake surrounded by a forest. Located at the centre of the town, the beautiful Yercaud Lake shimmers in the midst of forests of teak, sandalwood and silver oak; expansive plantations of coffee, cardamom and black pepper; and orchards of oranges, guava, and jackfruit. Meandering boats stir the lake to life. Yercaud is a quiet hill station in Tamil Nadu, with largely undisturbed natural beauty. There are no malls or entertainment arcades. Shopping involves fresh horticultural produce like-Natural oils, perfumes, coffee powder and skin care products, handloom fabrics, cloves, pepper. Most of the activity here is centred on nature via trekking, camping, boating and dirt biking. You can also take a tour to their coffee plantations, orange groves, rose garden, the orchidarium, silk farm. At the silk farm, you can see the fascinating process of silkworms being fed on mulberry leaves and their cocoons turned into silk threads. You get a mesmerising view as night falls and the city of Salem lights up at the foot of the hills. For a moment, it looks like there’s a glittering sheet of stars both above and below.
14. Mt abu-
Expected temperatures from march to June – 23’C to 33’C.
Things to do- a small place very popular for weekend getaways and honeymooners offers trekking, camping, rock climbing. Also visit wildlife sanctuary, anchalgarh fort. Enjoy nakki lake boating, caving, dhrudhiya water falls, dollars temple and toad rock.
15. Mahabaleshwar-
Expected temperatures from march to June – 25’C to 35’C.
Things to do- this hill station is flooded throughout the year by tourists because of its proximity to mumbai and pune. It offers various sight seeing points and waterfalls, panchgani, venna lake, pratapgad fort trek, Morarji castle and pleasant climate all through the year. You can also shop for jams, jellies and honey. Indulge in food at Mapro.
16. Shillong-
Expected temperatures from march to June – 24’C to 15’C.
Things to do- also known as scotland of east offers boating in Umiam lake, fishing at dawki, trekking, horse riding, river rafting, kayaking, waterfall rapelling, waterfall hopping, camping, Asia’s cleanest village, exploring caves, golfing, rock climbing, starting in tree house, walking in the clouds, shopping. This place also offers nightlife. This small town has exclusive night clubs, lounges and bars to explore.
17. Tawang-
Expected temperatures from march to June – 5’C to 21’C.
Things to do- known as land of hidden paradise is beautiful. Here u can visit madhuri lake, gompas, monasteries, pankang teng tso lake, waterfalls and war memorial.
18. Mcleodganj-
Expected temperatures from march to June – 22’C to 38’C.
Things to do- visit triund hill, Tibetan museum, gompas and temples. Enjoy activities like trekking, shopping, boating, hiking, camping and star gazing. Enjoy the colorful cafes, yoga and cooking classes.
19. Sikkim-
Expected temperatures from march to June – 11’C to 19’C.
Things to do- trekking, river rafting, bird watching, cable car ride, Yak ride, monasteries, flower exhibition, mountain biking, enjoy sikkimese night life, holy caves and paragliding. Among the most popular religious festivals in Sikkim Saga Dawa is believed to be the holiest and celebrated with great pomp and show. The festival is organised either at the end of May or beginning of June. Apart from the religious rites, the main attraction of this celebration is the lama masked dance, which is a must see.
20. Auli-
Expected temperatures from march to June – 8’C to 15’C.
Things to do- a small place offering super mesmerizing views. Here you can enjoy skiing, chenab lake, breathtaking views of Himalayas, trekking and temples at joshimath.
