Being a Gujarati, eating thepla, bhakhri, rotli is very common at all our houses. Today I thot of giving the same old whole wheat bhakri a tasty twist.
So I made a bhakri pizza
Now before I share the recipe…for people who dont know what is bhakri- it’s a whole wheat flat bread, which is little thick n crispy. These ready to eat bhakris r available in lot of stores in Mumbai. If u hv them ready u can make this pizza in 10 mints. If u wanna make it at home it’s pretty easy n quick too.
Preparation time- if ready bhakri then 10 mints / if making from scratch then half hour.
For the bhakri-
Wheat flour 2 cups
Salt as per taste
Oil
Milk
In a bowl add flour, salt and 1 tbspn oil. Mix it. Then add milk to it and knead it into a hard dough. Keep it aside for 10 mints.
Now take a big ball of the dough and roll it into a little thick flat bread. Put it on a tawa n let it cook slightly on one side. Then flip it n cook the other side and take a cloth and start pressing on the bhakri gently so it cooks faster and starts becoming crispy on the surface. Again flip it and cook other side by again pressing it with a cloth till it looks like this???? on both the sides.
For the pizza sauce-
2 big tomatoes deseeded n chopped
1 medium sized onion chopped
6 cloves of garlic chopped
Salt
Oregano
Chilli flakes
Rosemary
Red chilli powder
Olive oil
In a pan heat 1tsp olive oil, add garlic n onion n saute till cooked. Add tomatoes n cook.
Once tomatoes half cooked add salt, oregano, chilli flakes, rosemary as per the taste and 1 tsp chilli powder. Cook it thoroughly.
Blend it in a blender to fine paste and ur sauce is ready.
For toppings
1 capsicum thinly sliced
1 onion thinly sliced
1 zucchini thinly sliced
4 mushrooms thinly sliced
Grated cheese….mozzarella or cheddar.
Now heat the oven to 180 degrees. Grease the baking tray.
Take a bhakri and apply sauce over it, then put the toppings, sprinkle some cheese and bake it in the baking tray for 10 mints at 180 degrees.
And your delicious bhakri pizza is ready to devour. It’s healthy, homemade and quick to make and a super tasty twist to the regular gujju home food.
