All about Soy Protein

Since most of us are becoming health conscious and getting more conscious about what we put into our bodies proteins amongst vegetarians has been most debated. It has always been  believed that chicken and eggs have the right proteins which veg food lacks. Recently DuPont Nutrition and Health organized a blogger’s meet, bringing country’s eminent and popular health & lifestyle writers and influencers under one roof for the most researched subject- Soy Protein. This meet refuted the myths about plant based protein not being enough and educated us about soy protein.

DuPont Nutrition and Health is a business unit of DowDuPont Specialty Products Division that combines in- depth knowledge of food and nutrition with current research and expert science to deliver unmatched values to the food,  beverage,  pharmaceuticals and dietary supplement industries.  Currently DuPont holds several market leading positions among others in probiotics,  pharmaceutical excipients, systems, emulsifiers and protein solutions.

DuPont has applied current research and expert science in studies evaluating the effectiveness of incorporating soy protein-based foods into higher protein diet for weight loss.

Some of their amazing speakers like Mr. Indranil Chatterjee, Ms. Jean Heggie and Ms. Jigna Sheth talked about science and benefits of soy protein as well as nutritional awareness of soy protein.

Soy protein emerges as superior among plant proteins on the basis of its protein quality and proven health benefits. It’s a high quality protein, containing all the essential amino acids in the proper ratio. Being plant based protein, soy protein boasts of

1. Low fat content and saturated fat.

2. Free of cholesterol and lactose (hence making it suitable for lactose intolerants too).

3. It has a PDCAAS (Protein Digestibility-Corrected Amino Acid Score – a worldwide accepted method of analysing the quality of food proteins which considers a protein’s digestibility and essential amino acid profile) of 1.0, the highest score attainable, placing it on par with dairy and egg protein in terms of its protein quality.

4. It’s heart healthy.

5. Supports weight loss and weight management.

6. Supports muscle maintenance and growth as part of an exercise program.

Having soy protein in adequate amounts is good on daily basis. Soy can replace dairy with soy milk, tofu and cheeses. If you are wondering how to consume this regularly,  it’s pretty simple to do so. Soy protein does not have a taste of its own and hence can easily be mixed with anything. In powder form it can be added to soups and gravies. Make rotis and gravies out of it. Also you can make desserts,  cereal bars,  snacks,  continental dishes and so much with it while enjoying your regular taste. It’s your first step to fuel your body with the right proteins.

This meet however was ended with Q&A and some lip smacking food and selfies as we departed with all this knowledge for a healthier us.
